Poem #1 - Sky Fell Down

Writer: Craig FieldCraig Field

I recently came across some old poems/songs that I had written quite some time ago. They were pretty terrible. Actually I think most of what I write isn't that good, but reading them did inspire me to write more. When I couldn't find the words I needed google became my friend, usually very late at night. So over the next little while I'll publish what I've got so far and the internet will tell me if they are any good or not. TBH I don't care what you think of them, I like them. It'd be nice if you did but I don't need your validation, this is mostly about getting them recorded somewhere. The subject matter is all stuff I am passionate about, and I might even explain what the poem is about when I publish it.

This first one was originally written around September 2001, and is the only poem to survive the cull from that era. The subject will become obvious once you connect the date to the title.

Do you remember the day the sky fell down?

We awoke to a day torn

The city that never sleeps,

That fateful morn

Thunder echoed through the sky

Destiny’s wings cast shadows high

The day the sky fell down

In the face of the dark,

We found our light,

Courage in our heart,

A strength to defy,

To burn our soul,

Forever remind

The day the sky fell down

The day the sky fell down

Symphonies of hope resound,

Through the ashes and the tears,

Together we rise,

The day the sky fell down

Never forget the sky fell down

They carried the flame

Through smoke and debris,

The fragments, they whispered our name

From the rubble emerged stories untold

A tapestry of our heroes,

The brave and the bold.

The day the sky fell down

With our armour, we faced the storm

In the face of darkness,

Our spirits reborn

We found the light,

The day the sky fell down

Scars burn deep,

Etched in our hearts,

How we played the game

A world that prevailed,

Never the same

The day the sky fell down.

The day the sky fell down

We’ll never forget,

Or let darkness surround

In our hearts,

As we carry the light,

Love will always abound

The day the sky fell down

Never forget that the sky fell down
