Like everyone, I am continually horrified by the constant gun violence in the US. However I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing short of of a civil war that will fix the problem, so I'll just continue living my life in the greatest country on the planet.
In the meantime here's my version of Americas Anthem
American Anthem
In a land where dreams take flight,
A nation gripped by endless fight,
A plea for change echoes clear,
Safety’s call, we all hold dear.
From Columbine’s pain to a Vegas’ night,
Through heartbreak’s tears, we strive for light,
United we stand, won’t relent,
Demanding shifts, our message sent.
Columbine’s halls marked by sorrow,
Innocence lost, a somber morrow,
Sandy Hook’s young voices silenced too soon,
Can’t disregard that haunting tomb.
And in Pulse’s shadow, lives blown asunder,
A nightclub’s joy torn by Thunder,
Enough of violence, time to rearrange,
A future free from constant change.
Vegas’ strip bathed in sorrow’s hue,
A concert turned battle, emotions askew,
Parkland’s youth raised their voices high,
Seeking change, so no more would die.
Day by day, the toll keeps growing,
Innocent lives lost, families unknowing,
Thoughts and prayers fall short, let’s transcend,
Actions are needed, and love to mend.
Enough bloodshed, time for peace’s reign,
Let’s make suffering’s grasp wane,
Background checks, a path to tread,
Honour the fallen, lives widespread.
As we remember those now gone,
Let’s keep their legacy brightly drawn,
With progress, let’s pave the way,
For safer times, and hopeful days.
