So coming to the conclusion that I can't be a rockstar, and my life will ultimately be a lot more mundane, AND this is the biggie - the older I get the more I realise that the important things are not what money gets you, but the friends and family that you share memories with.
When you spend an evening with some people you love, not doing anything remarkable, but just living life. These are the moments that make life worthwhile.
And sometimes when you're alone, just sit back and enjoy the view, this planet is pretty amazing to look at.
This one is the counterpoint to the previous poem that is all about excess...
Sunsets & Starlight
Friends by my side, laughter in the air,
No need for excess, just a life that’s fair,
Sunsets and starlight, they light up my way,
In this modest world, I’m happy to stay.
Walking down the street, with holes in my shoes,
No fancy cars, no headlines in the news,
Simple life, simple joys, that’s how I roll,
I find my riches in the stories that I’m told.
No gold, but a heart full of love,
No mansions tall, just a cozy little dove,
Finding wealth in the everyday,
In this simple life, I’ve found my own way.
Guitar strums by the fire, melodies so sweet,
A humble meal shared, with those I love to meet,
No need for grandeur, just a song and a smile,
In this down-to-earth journey, I walk the mile.
Beyond the glitter, beyond the show,
There’s a beauty in simplicity that’s all we know,
No need for more, when contentment resides,
In the depth of life’s moments, where true meaning hides.
So here’s to life’s riches, the treasures unseen,
To the moments of joy and the places we’ve been,
In the embrace of simplicity, I find my grace,
Walking this path, with a smile on my face.
Friends by my side, laughter in the air,
No need for excess, just a life that’s fair,
Sunsets and starlight, they light up my way,
In this modest world, I’m happy to stay.
