Inspired by a poem written by a young lady that my partner worked with. She wrote this awesome poem about losing her brother to suicide. Very powerful and moving. It has brought more than one person to tears. It's called "Someone" I don't know if it is published anywhere or not, but a google search might find it.
I actually edited it (I had to make the terminology a little more considerate) and used it at a couple of functions, but in fairness to the original author I figured I should get "my own version" to use.
This is not nearly as powerful, but it carries the same sentiment.
Someday, somewhere, someone
Someday, somewhere, someone we’ll remember,
In the tapestry of life, a fading ember.
A soul we loved, who couldn’t bear the pain,
Left us wondering why, in a world of rain.
In the silence of night, we seek their face,
In memories and dreams, they find their place.
The laughter, the tears, the moments we shared,
All woven in the fabric of a life that’s cared.
But in the shadows, their demons did reside,
A battle within, that they tried to hide.
We wish we’d known, could’ve reached their soul,
Prevented the darkness from taking its toll.
The questions linger, the guilt and the “what ifs,”
In our hearts, the pain, like a persistent abyss.
We wonder if we failed, if love could have prevailed,
If we could’ve been the lighthouse, when their ship sailed.
But let us remember the love that remains,
The joy they brought, and the lasting gains.
Their smile, their warmth, their presence so dear,
In our hearts forever, they’re always near.
As we gather in sorrow, our tears intertwined,
In the embrace of each other, solace we find.
Together we heal, in unity we cope,
In the memory of our loved one, we find hope.
Someday, somewhere, someone may see,
The signs, the struggles, and the plea.
Let’s break the silence, let compassion be our guide,
So someday, somewhere, no more tears are cried.
