Poem #30 Shadows Cast

Mental health, domestic abuse, and childhood trauma are all closely linked. The people caught up in darkness of any abusive situation tend, a lot of the time, to hide it. This one is about a person living in such a situation.

Please if you know someone, or even if you suspect that someone is being abused, please speak to someone about it. To remain silent is to be complicit.

Shadows Cast

In shadows cast by silent tears, I hide,

A fractured soul where secrets abide.

In the corners of my heart, the pain resides,

A victim of darkness, where love collides.

I wear a mask, a smile to conceal,

The truth of my wounds, how deeply I feel.

Behind closed doors, where no one can see,

The bruises of my soul, the scars on me.

Each day’s a battle, a war within,

A silent scream, a muffled cry, my skin

Bears witness to the turmoil I endure,

In the hope that one day, I’ll find a cure.

I swallow my words, keep quiet and still,

For fear of the storm that rage can instill.

But within my heart, a spark remains,

A strength to break free from these chains.

I dream of a world where love is kind,

Where respect and tenderness intertwine.

In this silent struggle, I’ll find my way,

To a brighter dawn, a brand-new day.

For every victim hidden from the light,

Know you’re not alone in your fight.

Seek help and hope, and together we’ll stand,

To break the cycle, to heal, hand in hand.
