Poem #35 - The Chase

Winston Churchill was the first person to refer to depression as "The Black Dog" and thus that is how Black Dog Rides mascot, Winston got his name.

This one is about the unrelenting chase that some of us suffer from "The Black Dog" and it certainly was my experience. But with help I came out the other side, it took time and effort, not just from me, but from my family, friends, GP & pshycologist, as well as a few other things that I wont go into here. The point is recovery is possible. I know, I've done it.

The Chase

Through fields I flee, a hound gives chase,

The black dog, eyes intense, a wild race.

Its bark like thunder, sharp like a knife,

In the depths of fear, I fight for life.

Pounding paws and gnashing teeth,

A desperate sprint, escaping beneath.

The world goes by, a frantic blur,

As I pray for safety, my mind's a whirr.

But in this chase, fear starts to wane,

As adrenaline fuels each step I gain.

A battle of wills, courage I find,

Facing the beast, strength intertwined.

With every stride, I gain some ground,

A newfound power, my heart's resound.

Through the relentless chase, I strive,

To emerge from fear and truly alive.

In the end, I turn the tide,

The black dog's chase, I will not hide.

For courage and strength, I now embrace,

No longer haunted by that daunting chase.
