I think none of us want to see summer like 2019/20 ever again.
Black Summer
That summer the skies turned to red, December’s summer blaze, a fiery dread,
Amidst the embers, courage rose so high,
Heroes emerged, hearts touched the sky.
From Batemans Bay to Mallacoota’s shore,
Brave souls stood strong, forevermore,
Through smoke and flames, they fought as one,
Unyielding spirit, under the sun.
In Cobargo’s streets, they faced the fight,
Neighbours hand in hand, their bond alight,
In Bega Valley’s embrace, hope would reside,
As love and unity stood side by side.
The valleys wept, as the bushland burned,
Memories etched, lives lost, we yearned,
But in the darkest hour, hearts stayed true,
Together we’d heal, and rise anew.
In Kangaroo Island, a tale of might,
Facing the blaze, through day and night,
And in Adelaide Hills, where heroes soared,
Resilience and strength, they proudly roared.
Let this be a tribute to the brave,
To those who selflessly fought to save,
In the black summer’s trial, we found our way,
United we stood, to face a new day.
